Georgia’s IT sector continues its upward momentum in the first half of 2025
According to the National Bank of Georgia, the country’s IT sector has seen a significant increase in foreign revenues in recent years.
In 2013, the figure stood at just 3 million USD, whereas in the first half of 2025 it has already reached 489 million USD — nearly a 160-fold growth over the years and a 55% (or 174 million USD) increase compared to the same period in 2024.
This growth has also been reflected in the overall performance of the information and communication sector — in the first quarter of 2025, it increased by 28.6%, and in the second quarter by 37.1%. Although in 2024 the IT sector’s income from service exports amounted to 688 million USD, falling short of the record 784 million USD reached in 2023, the data recorded in the first half of 2025 confirms the sector’s rapid recovery and steady growth trend.
According to Geostat data, the number of people employed in the information and communication sector has been steadily increasing in recent years. In 2012, only 20,446 people worked in the sector, while in 2024 the number reached 48,158, and in the first half of 2025 it already stands at 49,792 — more than double the 2012 figure.
The rise in salaries clearly reflects the dynamic development of Georgia’s IT sector and the strong demand for qualified professionals. Over the past few years, the average salary has increased significantly, reaching 4,243 GEL in 2025. Current trends indicate that the sector will continue to expand in terms of both income and employment opportunities.
The growth of Georgia’s IT sector plays a vital role in driving the country’s economic development and strengthening its position in the global technology market, once again underscoring the strategic importance of this field for the nation’s economic progress.
