Shorena Kopaleishvili’s assessment of current trends in the IT sector in an interview with “Commersant”
In an interview with “Commersant,” Shorena Kopaleishvili, the Association of Georgian Virtual Zone Persons Chairman, reviewed current IT sector trends. According to her assessment, 2023 was an especially active and successful year for the sector, supported by preferential regimes, geopolitical processes in the region, and a relatively stable business environment in the country.
However, the situation changed in 2024. The unstable political and economic environment and uncertainty slowed the sector’s growth. Shorena Kopaleishvili noted that many companies are currently considering relocating to other countries, seeking countries that also offer attractive preferential tax regimes for activities focused on the creation and development of IT technologies, bringing innovations to their countries, as well as working in the field of technological research and development. According to her, Slovakia and Armenia are positioning interestingly in this regard, actively working on creating better conditions to attract more companies.
Despite the existing challenges, the chairman of the Association emphasizes that preferential regimes only are not enough. To maintain businesses and attract new investors, it is essential to ensure a stable and predictable business environment. In this interview, she once again highlighted the importance and necessity of developing the IT sector, which is driven by the joint efforts of the government and businesses.
