The Event on Remote Employment Taxation in Georgia
The Event on Remote Employment Taxation in Georgia
On May 3, the Association of Georgian Virtual Zone Persons was invited to the event “Remote Employment Taxation in Georgia”, which was hosted by the European Business Association (EBA) together with its member Grant Thornton Georgia / გრანთ თორნთონ საქართველო. The event aimed to review accomplishments and discuss current financial challenges related to remote employment in the country. The advancement of technology has allowed many businesses to operate completely remotely, allowing them to use the services of qualified personnel from anywhere in the world. Therefore, the issue of correct fulfillment of the payment obligation of persons working remotely within the labor contracts’ framework has become relevant, both for Georgian individuals and legal entities, and of course, this issue is relevant for the VZP companies.
At the beginning of the event, welcoming speeches were made by John Braeckeveldt, the President of the European Business Association; David Songhulashvili, Chairperson of the Committee of Sector Economy and Economic Development, Parliament of Georgia; Riina Kaljurand, Ambassador of Estonia to Georgia (TBC); and Otar Danelia, Business Ombudsman of Georgia.
The second part of the event was dedicated to the presentation by Grant Thornton, followed by a panel discussion attended by representatives of the Revenue Service of Georgia and business sector representatives. The guests also had the opportunity for a Q&A.
It is significant to note that all participants emphasized the issues facing the VIZ company as they work remotely and that state representatives noted their willingness to cooperate with the Association, demonstrating unequivocally that the role of Association in this process is critical.
Shorena Kopaleishvili emphasized the importance of this industry to the country, the current issues, and the need for a transparent and clear taxation law.
